Anyway, 2014 was an expensive year for us and this attic reno was the real killer, so we were keeping our eyes very close on the budget when wrapping this project up. I had used some brass fixtures and hardware in the bathroom and lighting leading up the staircase, so I wanted to carry that into to two small sconces in the front dormer. I thought sconces would be a nice touch in place of lamps in such a cozy space, and I wanted to be able to switch them on and off manually. We were at Lowes one weekend looking for something that might fit the bill, but there wasn’t much in brass. Then I saw this cutie and knew exactly how I could use it. Do you think I’m crazy yet?
Sometimes you have to think outside the box. While the glass piece might be
the ugliest thing less than desirable, the base was all that mattered. Swapping the dome for a simple edison bulb and flipping the direction of the base, and you have a perfectly cute wall sconce. And really, $6.98??? Yes. All day every day.
With each the fixture and lightbulb costing $6.98, this product comes in at under $14 when all is said and done! Granted, you need someone to brave the electrical installation, but the fixture comes with full directions.
There’s plenty of room to mix up the look with different bulbs and orientation, too! This would be so cute with the tube-shape light bulb, facing up instead of down as I have pictured here.
What do you think? Do you have some quick and easy design hacks I can steal? 🙂 Share and spread the word!
